I find it much, much easier to do self-directed learning in fiber-related areas than in math/computer-related areas. It's a weird difference. My suspicion is that it has to do with the physicality of the one and the writing skills of the people who write about the other.

Also, now I'm wondering about other people's balances.

Might also have something to do with the ease of finding illustrations and even demonstration videos of fiber arts -- though, yes, that would definitely come under "physicality." (In my case, I think there's a definite dyscalculia on my part handicapping me in mathematical and spatial areas. And I haven't done a lot of in-depth computer stuff.)

I think we're the exact opposite of each other. I am excellent at math and computers, and only recently have I been able to learn from videos at all. I had to watch enough TV to train my mind, and even now it's hard.
