Backstory: I recently moved from the place where I lived for nearly 7 years, and in fact I kinda sorta still live there (it's complicated).

I was tired and filling in address forms. After starting to fill in my old street address and correcting myself, I worked my way down through city, state, and country. The contents of the country dropdown amused and distracted me, as they always do. (There is no way to present that information and choice that is not inherently funny to me. I think there will not be until/unless the world has 12 countries, each of which start with a different letter.) Next came the ZIP code field, which I quickly filled in with my childhood ZIP code.

I've done this before with keyboard layouts and I've heard of it happening to foreign language learners. Humans apparently cope much better with two ways of doing things ("right" and "wrong" or "old" and "new") than we do with three. I initially learned to use Visual Studio while in the middle of one of my periodic switches between vim and emacs, and ended up having to put my hands on my head and take deep breaths whenever my trained typing reflexes started misfiring and jangling against each other.

I don't seem to have a nice conclusion to this narrative arc, so it's more forms for me.
